Indica vs. Sativa vs. Hybrid: What Oklahoma Patients Should Know

What the indica, sativa and hybrid labels actually mean, and why terpenes and lab data matter more.

Indica, sativa and hybrid are the three labels you will see on almost every cannabis jar in Oklahoma. Here is what they mean, and what they do not.

Where the labels come from

The terms originally described plant shape. Indica plants tend to be shorter and bushier, while sativa plants grow taller with narrower leaves. Hybrids combine genetics from both.

Why the label is only a starting point

Modern cannabis has been crossbred for decades, so most flower is genetically a hybrid. Two strains with the same label can feel very different. That is why the full lab data matters.

Look at terpenes and THC

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds responsible for scent and flavor, like myrcene, limonene and caryophyllene. On every ZOW! strain profile you can see the terpene total and the top terpenes, alongside THC.

How ZOW! labels its flower

ZOW! Collective color-codes strain types consistently across every brand: hybrid in teal, sativa in orange and indica in purple, so you can scan the strain library quickly.
